She has covered sports for some of some of the most prominent media across the globe. It was a long time writing about various sports on behalf of The Washington Post, including tennis, football and basketball. Nichols began a nine year time at ESPN where she was awarded two Emmy Awards, and featured on a number of the network's best programs, including NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. Her Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral one of the areas she worked for the network. After she left ESPN, her next destination was CNN and Turner Sports. Unguarded - Rachel Nichols - was her first self-titled show, which aired each week on CNN International. More than 1 billion people were watching it around the world. Nichols worked for TNT as a broadcaster who reported on NBA games, including regular season games, playoffs as well as All Star television broadcasts. Nichols also covered baseball, golf and Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. It was the only occasion in the award's 42 year history that a woman was nominated amongst the more than 200 candidates.
