Though she was never crowned with "American Idol" name, Kellie Pickler was one of the most popular alumni from the show. Kellie Dawn Pickler was born Kellie Dawn Pickler June 28, 1986 in Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The couple had an aged 16-year-old mother. This was an extremely difficult time for Pickler as her father battled with addiction issues for both alcohol and substances as her mother divorced her when she was only two. Morton was able to gain the custody of Pickler for two years. However, Pickler acknowledged that not everything went well. "I recall my mom and I were at the kitchen table and I said to her, 'I'd like God would take me away, I'd much rather be dead than live here with you.' She pulled the kitchen knife out and put it in the middle of the counter. And she then told her: "Here you go." Fourth grade. I was in fourth grade "Of course I would never have done anything about the incident. However, it resulted in a variety of emotional scars." Pickler aged twelve years old, was handed over to Morton's grandparents after the court case. Pickler was raised by her grandmothers throughout her entire life. She cites them as being the most influential individuals throughout her life. Grandmother Faye Pickler died from lung cancer in January 2002. she was continued to be raised by her grandfather. Pickler received her high school diploma from North Stanly in New London, North Carolina.
